In 2016 ; Hydroserve were contacted by internationally renowned Soft Drinks manufacturer Clearly Drinks Ltd in Southwick, Sunderland and asked to install a new Water Supply Borehole.
CDL has been a well known provider of soft drinks and bottled water throughout the United Kingdom ( and internationally ) for many years.
As the Water Supply Borehole was required to provide Groundwater suitable for use in water bottling, it was of critical importance that the Design and Installation of the Borehole was of the very highest standard.
Hydroserve designed and installed the Borehole using Stainless Steel casing, which was perforated from 40-75 meters to allow ingress of groundwater, and was surrounded by a gravel pack via a ’tremie pipe’ (think icing a Wedding Cake, but in this case 75 metres below ground level ! ).
This gravel pack was installed to stabilise the formation and provide a filter bed against the Water bearing Permian Sand Strata.
Once the gravel pack was up to 25 meters below ground level, the borehole was pressure grouted to the surface.
The Grouting procedure is a method of ensuring a borehole is sealed against potential contaminants in the surface strata and surface water. It is a critical stage in the execution of construction of a borehole. You only get one chance to get this procedure right, so it has to be done carefully, methodically and patiently.
Once the borehole was successfully sealed, the Well Development process began, ensuring that the Borehole would be ready for installation of a Submersible Well Pump.
10 days after moving onto site with Drilling Machinery, a 6’’ Caprari Well Pump was installed and Test Pumping Commenced at around 30 cubic meters per hour.
The Borehole has been a great success and in 2020 Hydroserve was asked to install an identical 2nd Borehole around 30 metres from the first, to cope with Clearly Drinks Ltd’s expanding demand for their range of Bottled Water Products. The 2 Boreholes now operate in conjunction with each other to supply Clearly Drinks Ltd with all the Groundwater they need for their burgeoning business.
A real success story that we are proud to be a part of!
